[net.med] Allergy shots

In reply to the question about allergy injections:

1). My allergist also said the cure takes some time, from 2-3 years
to show significant changes, and about 80% of those receiving the shots
get some improvements.

2). I too am allergic to about anything that can be inhaled, but I haven't
noticed any significant adverse effects beyond a little sinus that I never
got before. I've been taking the injections twice a week for about 2 months
now, so I don't know if this will change with time.

3). If you are getting the shots done at work (usually free) make sure that
your doctor gives you a vial of adrenalin along with the allergy serum so that
you are sure to have ready access if you should go into anaphalactic shock
due to a reaction to the serum. This is not too common, but better to be
prepared.

I hope this is of some help. I'm committed to trying this approach
instead of suffering every spring and fall, and maybe damaging my eyes and
lungs in the process.
