Believe it or not, Absorbine, Jr (TM) works beautifully.
Apply it full-strength to the bug bite. Then LEAVE IT ALONE!
I've had dime-sized blackfly welts shrink to pimples within a day.
Ah, the wonders of patent medicine!

A paste made from baking soda will neutralize the local acidity.
Following this as an initial treatment, I've found that hydrocortisone
ointment is good for taking the itch out.
