I recently finished reading the book Getting Well Again by the Symingtons and someone else (3 authors). This book describes the results of "adjunct therapy" in cancer treatment. Also the adjunct methods. The efficacy of their methods seems to be without question. Whether all patients are willing to believe that their methods can work is another thing. Generally the book is about visualization, developing a positive mental attitude, clearing up your emotional life, and that sort of stuff. This book is very interesting and I would recommend it unqualifiedly (which means that I am about to make a qualification). Application of their methods is an *adjunct* to, not a *substitute* for, conventional medical treatment and therapy. About $3.95 in paperback. Maurice {decvax, sdcrdcf, hplabs, ucbvax}!trwrb!suhre

I second Maurice Suhre's recommendation for GETTING WELL AGAIN. I would only add: the adjunct methods discussed in the book can be generalized to fit any serious disease. The underlying theme is that the patient does have some control over his/her body and how it reacts to the disease. this book is an excellent book for people close to the patient. It discusses how to support the patient in following the methods, and in making the choices inherent in the situation, particularly the choice to die. In addition, it gave my family a common basis from which to start talking at a time when we were all facing some pretty scary times. Moira Mallison tektronix!moiram
