I have seen a lot of discussion about back pain in the last year. I would
like to tell you about my experience with back pain and how I have solved
the problem.

I had many episodes of severe muscle spasms from about April through August of
1984. These spasms totally disabled me for an average of three to five days
at a time. I've never been through torture like that before. Each time I
would try to move, my back muscles would tighten up into a "knot" and it
feels like you've just been electrocuted.

Anyway, nobody could help me. To make a long story short, I found that what
was causing my back problems was situps. A couple of weeks before I started
having my back problems, (which I have never had before), I decided to get
my body in tiptop shape. I especially wanted to firm-up my slight potbelly.

Well, situps, to me, seemed to be the answer for getting rid of my potbelly.
But, it also turned out to be injuring my back.

I now still exercise, but to firm up my stomach I do leg lifts. I have had
no trouble with my back since. Situps may be fine for someone else, but for
some reason my back can't handle it.

My final point is this: There are a lot of people who have back problems. I
was one of them, and I thought there was no hope in solving the problem. I
did, however, find a solution to my particular problem, and it was simply to
stop doing situps.

There may be a lot of you out there that are having back problems, when the
solution could be a very simple one. Every back is different, and finding
your back's likes and dislikes is not a simple task. I lucked out. Good
luck to all of you. I hope you can find a simple solution to your problems.
