[net.med] California Therapies <Flame-ish Content>

=> Lets keep religion out of the discussion. Yin/yang or ping/pong or
=> whatever just aren't tangable enough to use as arguements during a
=> discussion like this.
=>
=> Maybe the discussion should be whether society should leave the
=> development of new therapies to the "scientists" or the "clergy"
=> or the "Californians".

Now just a minute here! I take great exception to your implication that
California is the standard Granola-bowl, full of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
Just because we happen to have what is probably the highest concentration
of these types in the nation does *not* mean that *everyone* in California
is hyping the vegetarian/holistic/meditation/prayer/est/what-have-you
approach. When I'm sick, I go to an M.D. I try to keep myself well-fed
and well-rested, as well as aware of what is and isn't serious, as judged
by a competent doctor. I read articles that address health issues, I watch
PBS programs on health, and I resent the assumption by so many back-Easterners
that all Californians are crackers.

I sincerely hope that I'm just being over-sensitive, and that you don't
really believe that Californians are what the media depicts us to be.

             If a man does not keep pace with his companions,
             perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
             Let him step to the music he hears,
             however measured or far away.

	Hmm, when I am sick, I go to my acupuncturist/herbalist. Of
course, she is from China and just moved here a few years ago.
So does my dad, who is fourth generation Californian (my family
came to California in 1847).

	Tonight I am going to a seminar on Ericksonian hypnosis,
given at the local community center. As usual, I am going
to skip the firewalking classes. The presidents of SCCI and
Personetics have both done firewalks. My wife is a vegatarian
and a yoga student.

	On the other hand, Ronnie is from California, and I'll
bet he goes to an M.D. and I'll bet that he has never firewalked.
I think half the people in California are from New Jersey
anyway.

	I resemble the implication!!

NO NO NO! Only on quarter are from New Jersey, the other quarter
are from New York and Chicago but just claim to be from New Jersey
because it's more trendy right now... :-)

(I suppose that as a native *NORTHERN* Californian I should point
out that I go to an MD, yet believe the holistic approach is a
nice idea; would meditate, but it takes to much time and I fall
asleep; hate granola, gimme ham 'n eggs!; think est is, well, almost
as bad as most traditional religions; have never firewalked, though
I have gone barefoot in the snow...; and just don't understand why
people would want needles stuck in them *at all*, whether for health
or recreation. You see! all your preconceptions were, like, youknow,
really, like, nowhere.)

Well, gotta go now, my hot tub is getting cold and my wine cooler is
getting warm, and my friends are all threatening to put their clothes
back on and .. :-)
