[net.med] Life as a Turtle, Day 6

annab@azure.UUCP (Anna Beaver) (03/26/85)

At this point, things are looking up. I was real discouraged about
my condition when they put me into this new skin. It seems though
that it may help some. My leg only hurts (the syatic(sp) nerve being
pinched) if I try to lie in any position other than my stomach, or
if I get up and try to do things for myself. So I don't do much.
My son, Mike, is home from school this week, so he has been keeping
me in tea and juice and allowing me to loose a few games of
Backgammon to him. :-) Actually, he has to cook too. (he's 14)
(I HAD to say something about what a good kid he has been)

I find that if I try to lie in any position other than my stomach,
the cast does not hold me into place. I have been on my stomach for
so long that my elbows are about shot, though. At night I must be
trying to find some other position. I sort of slide off these
pillows and wake up. Fortunately, I have only bumped into Bill
once and it didn't wake him. (thank (whoever) for queen size beds)

It has occurred to me that I never said anything about how long they
want to keep me in this cast. The doctor has said that he would like
to keep me in it for 3 to 4 weeks. I had talked to them this morning
and they said that if the cast seems to be loose by next Monday,
they would like to give me a fresh one. (I forgot to ask if they have
a shower there. When they cut me out, it could be my big chance) :-)

   one more thing....
I want to thank all the people who took time to send their well wishes.
I am still open to practical suggestions though.

		it just sounds catchy)
