Has anyone ever heard of having allergic reaction to "neo-decadron" (spelling?). What would be the suspected reaction to this drug? I have had a suspected reaction to this drug and I would like to know what it is, how dangerous can it be (to someone allergic to it), and what (if any) related drugs I should avoid... Any info either to the net or via mail would be appreciated... thanx. -- mail: ihnp4!drutx!grm

I don't know about "neo"-decadron, but Decadron is a brand of dexamethasone, a corticosteroid like hydrocortisone and prednisone. It can cause the typical set of side effects that any corticosteroid produces--disturbances in fat distribution causing a "chipmunk-like" look, osteoporosis, adrenal suppression, and a host of other strange conditions. Note that all of these come from LONG TERM use of any corticosteroid and don't reflect what happens during short-term, self-limited use as prescribed by a doctor, such as might be given to control severe allergic or inflammatory conditions. One side-effect that can happen upon initial treatment with such drugs is a kind of euphoria, sometimes even a psychosis. Naturally, this is pretty rare, but it has been reported frequently enough to be characterized as a potential side-effect. I don't know about being "allergic", in the proper sense, to such a family of drugs. If you have specific questions about the reaction you did have (which you haven't described here) you would do well to consult the doctor who prescribed the drug and discuss it. -- /Steve Dyer {decvax,linus,ima,ihnp4}!bbncca!sdyer sdyer@bbnccv.ARPA
