[net.med] Boston Area: Pediatric Allergist Wanted

mra@vaxine.UUCP (Mark Adler) (06/05/85)

I am looking for recommendations for a good pediatric allergist in the
Boston area. Both my wife and I have allergies, and my 6 year old son
has inherited a double dose of our allergic genes.

He has had eczema from infancy, and now that that seems to be abating, he
is developing asthma. He also has numerous food allergies and is really
suffering now with all the pollen in the air.

The allergist affiliated with our HMO seems too conservative, almost like
he is waiting for things to get much worse before considering any treatment.

We persuaded him to do some tests to see which foods our son is really
allergic to. He recommended scratch tests, but we persuaded him to do
RAST tests instead. Scratch tests seemed like the wrong thing to use on
someone with such sensitive skin already. We're still waiting for the
results of the tests, and we are certainly not satisfied with the way we
were treated.

If anyone has had some positive experiences with an allergist in the Boston
area, particularly one who has helped you with your children's allergies, I
would certainly appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks.
