My 35 year old sister was recently diagnosed as having alopecia areta - an apparently non-life-threatening disease, but the symptoms are pretty awful -- all the hair on her head has fallen out. Her doctor doesn't have any idea of why she got it (some theories say stress causes it, some that it is some sort of immune problem) or if and when her hair will grow back. Apparently some people stay bald, others have hair that grows back, and some people have repeated episodes of it throughout their lifetimes. Does anyone out there have any personal experience with this disease, or know of any good reference sources on it?
