[net.med] does milk really do my body good?

phil@amdcad.UUCP (Phil Ngai) (08/07/85)

One book says "drink lots of milk, the calcium is good for you".
Another says "don't drink milk, it's loaded with cholesterol".
What to do? (I like the taste of milk, not to mention ice cream!)

This one's easy--look for low-fat milk products like buttermilk,
skim milk, cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, etc. You get the
benefits of calcium, but avoid most of the fat and cholesterol.

Drink skim milk and eat sherbet. It does no have the
butterfat.

Or the taste, unfortunately.

Could the question be, why drink milk? If not for the heavy advertising
proclaiming its value, why would we drink it? Seems no other animal needs
the nutrients in milk after weaning. Why should humans?
