[net.med] Why are wholistic

davidl@tekadg.UUCP (Dave) (09/20/85)

I mean, I AGREE with a lot of what they say - maybe even MOST of what
they say - and I've got even LESS use for the medical "establishment"
than they do - but, somehow, they manage to come across like a bunch of
flying-saucer-fanatic religious nuts! Like, by now, when I hear the
word "wholistic" (SP???) I sort of cringe, like when I hear "occult",
or "metaphysical", or... or... or...

A plague on both your houses!!!

Oh, c'mon Dave! You can figure it out! They are so cracked because they're
acting like a bunch of salesmen, trying to hook us with their wonderful
service. Think about it. Without mentioning names (who needs to; it's
obvious who these people are) I'll say that the lot of them sound like a
bunch of patent medicine hucksters following the road show from town to town
a century or so ago. I'd expect to have a bottle of the latest cod-liver oil
shoved in my face if I ever were to meet one of these folks in person.

As you say, there appears to be more than a grain of truth to what these guys
are trying to tell us, but the method they choose to present their views
makes me want to gag! It would be a lot easier to listen if there didn't
seem to be so much frothing at the mouth going on. What ever happened to
good, old, common sense in maintaining one's health? Why do I have to be
subjected to crap about monitoring my alpha waves or some such in order to
get some information out of all this? Is *that* supposed to make me live
longer or what?

"J. Frank Parnell."
"Ott . . . Otto."
"Do you ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?"

P.S. In case anybody's keeping track of votes, here's one *for* a holistic
subgroup of net.med (at least until there's a little more restraint
exhibited in the sales pitch) . . . as if that would really help to
keep this group a little more serious.
