[net.med] A query regarding IR Laser treatment of Shin-splints

ksbszabo@watvlsi.UUCP (Kevin Szabo) (11/16/85)

My wife hurt her legs doing aerobic exercises a few weeks ago.
(she had stopped for a month and then had a vigorous workout...)
Her injury looked like shin-splints, but I seem to remember
her mention diagnosis of a damaged muscle as well.

The Physio-therapist wants to use a low power laser to promote
healing. Has anybody heard of this before? The physio wrote
down the appropriate points on a sheet of paper for me ...

	-- Low power IR laser
	-- Non Thermal
-- Non ionizing - no radiation
	-- no side effects.

The points that are out of my league:

-- collagen repair instead of scar tissue
	-- inflammatory progress -OA,RA ???

	-- Omniproble
	-- Meldelco

Could some kind soul decode and comment on this treatment? Is it a
standard one?

			Thanks,

			Kevin
