[net.med] Popping Sounds in Left Ear...

mancello@acf4.UUCP (Mr. Mancello) (01/18/86)

Certain sounds seem to cause a popping sensation in my left ear. The sounds
are moderate to loud in amplitude. In addition, a less amplified sound will
cause the same effect if it's source is in close proximity to my left ear.
Also, my ears feel clogged quite often (perhaps due to nasal congestion).
Even when my congestion is cleared the problem still occurs. There is nothing
obstructing my ear canals.

The popping sound I sense has a duration of 2-3 seconds and intensifies with
the amplitude of the sound source. The interesting thing about this is that
the sensation only occurs when a constant sound source is abruptly eliminated.
For instance, if I am listening to music on my stereo system at a moderate
listening level and I turn down the volume quickly, the sensation occurs.
It is as if something deep inside my left ear is closing and reopening to a
adjust to the sound. This sensation is quite annoying and I would like
to know what is causing it and how it can be eliminated.
