[net.med] kidney stones

I can only give you some vague information but it has helped me.
I have passed several stones ( after the 1st 5, it really isn't as bad since
you know you will live through it somehow). All of mine are calcium oxalate.
My urologist claims that diet will not help but suggested drinking lots of water
daily. He also believes that small doses of hyrochlorothiazide ( one of the
high blood pressure medications) will prevent calcium salts from precipitating in the
kidneys.

Some of the "health nut" folks claim that supplements of magnesium and vitamin
B6 help prevent stones also.

I took the thiazide for a few years and in that period did not pass any stones.
However, I also upped my water intake . After a few years, I decided to stop
the thiazide and see what happened. So far (2 years later) so good.

Good luck. They are not pleasant.
