It's worse still.  The House passed the drug bill in question, complete
with the three amendments Don alludes to.  What has *not* been widely
reported in the press is that the clauses that permit the admission
of evidence illegally obtained without a warrant, where the police acted
"in good faith", and permit the use of the death penalty when death is
caused as "part of an ongoing criminal enterprise", are *not* restricted
to drug cases, as some would have us believe.

The other disturbing aspect of this is that these assaults on our
civil liberties are supported by the Democratic House leadership.
It would appear that the Democrats and Republicans are trying to
outdo one another in cracking down on the "drug menace", now that
media hype has successfully detached public perceptions of the
problem from reality.

And as for Tim's plea above, it's a little late to write your
Congressbeing now.  Try your Senators.
