There is nothing inherent in the NAPLPS standard (I would call the coding method `elegant' instead of `convoluted', but this comes from working with it for 3 years) that forces the display of pages to be slow. Most early decoders seem to use `get it out on the market fast' programming methods with predictable results. Decoders will be available soon that should be capable of scan-converting a polygon in 1/30th of a second. This should be fast enough for many applications - not for real-time animation of course, but fine for lots of things. Then the limiting factor becomes how quickly you can deliver the data to the decoder. How much interest is there in NAPLPS out there? Enough for net.graphics.naplps? Let me know.
