I've been reading up on Masscomp 500 series stations. I get the impression that on the Masscomp it's easy to do graphics work ("Hey, box--draw a red line from here to there; now draw a blue rectangle with these corners") and it's considerably less easy to do image work ("Hey box--here's a pixel-by-pixel description of a color photograph of my grandparents--put it up on your screen"). Does your impression match mine? What "less than the cost of a VAX" boxes out there CAN do image work? -- ...decvax!allegra!umcp-cs!elsie!ado (301) 496-5688

We have a color Masscomp on loan. It can draw graphics quite quickly; however, Masscomp has been unable to get us a system that has a working graphics library. (The supplied programs work fine, but we don't have documentation on how to talk to the graphics processor, so we can't even write our own library.) -- In-Real-Life: Chris Torek, Univ of MD Comp Sci (301) 454-7690 UUCP: {seismo,allegra,brl-bmd}!umcp-cs!chris CSNet: chris@umcp-cs ARPA: chris@maryland
