[net.graphics] Privac's CT-1000 super-whamo graphics system

sd@sdchema.UUCP (08/20/84)

Did anyone see this machine at SIGGRAPH this year?
They (Privac Inc.) have been publishing some pretty spectacular
specs for this system. They were supposed to have a demo at the NCGA expo
in Anaheim earlier this year, but all that showed up was a monitor and
a rather embarrassed salesperson. He claimed they would be ready
for SIGGRAPH. Were they?

Yes, Privac was ready for Siggraph. I thought their system
was impressive, although you should give them a few months
to work out the bugs. For anyone who didn't see it, the
specs are:

1280x1024 60Hz non-interlaced.
500 Megapixels/second writing rate.
4 to 48 planes.
12.5 MHz 68000 controller
80 nS cycle 32 bit ucode processor.
3D vectors - 250K /second
3D polygons - 100K triangles /second

Evaluation price if you order by Aug 31 -- $14K
