Announcing the Interactive Planning Workstation (IPWS), an UNIX-based package combining graphics, database, and user interface tools to support high level data analysis and planning. The tools can be used as is in the so-called Basic Workstation; or they can be further refined by applications to do specific jobs. Currently, several AT&T organizations use IPWS for network analysis and planning. IPWS's graphics are currently based on the CORE standard, although we will be moving to GKS next year. IPWS's database is a relational one and can store data in vanilla UNIX files or large physical files. IPWS's user interface is a menu oriented shell. IPWS can run in several configurations with a variety of equipment. The most popular system uses an AT&T 6300 color graphics workstation. Other equipment can be added with a moderate amount of programming.
