[net.graphics] 3d systems for sculpting

al@ames.UUCP (Al Globus) (12/07/84)

I'm interesting in putting together a sculpting system using 3d graphics.
The system would do for 3d shapes what MacPaint does for 2d drawings.
Does anyone have suggestions as to hardware and software that can be
bought or copied? Also, I'm a little stuck on how to do depth queueing.
There are several approaches, e.g., stereo, 3d display devices, various
shading approaches, but none I've thought of seem adequate, fast,
and inexpensive.

This would indeed be a nifty product. As one who is intimately involved
in computer solid modeling, however, I think you should be warned that
a really usable product like this is incredibly difficult to achieve,
especially if it has to be inexpensive. It might be worthwhile to visit
some established computer graphics sites and vendors to see what is
currently known and available.
