Here in the Neurobiology Lab at the Rockefeller University we are using an Ikonas framebuffer hooked up to a Tektronix 690SR monitor as a visual stimulator. The monitor is several hundred feet from the Ikonas, and there are several rooms where the monitor is used. Currently there are sets of wires from the Ikonas to each location of the monitor, but only one group of wires is connected to the Ikonas at a time. We would like to have all of the wires live, so that the monitor could be moved from room to room without changing the connections back at the Ikonas. Loop through is not a good solution in this situation because of our physical layout. The best solution is a Video DA, a piece of Analog hardware (do you believe that people still make analog stuff?) for making copies of a video signal. Unfortunately the video da industry mostly makes equipment for broadcasters. Standard video (RS170) is slower than the RS343 video signals we are using with our graphics gear. Does anyone know of a company that makes video distribution gear for RS343 (often called high line rate) applications? Here's a related question. Is Tektronix really phasing out the 690SR monitor? Its in wide use by physiologists and computer graphologists. Does anyone know of an alternative of similar quality/performance?
