[net.graphics] Graphics Interface '85 Advance Program

samackay@watcgl.UUCP (Stephen MacKay) (02/15/85)

Graphics Interface, the 11th conference sponsored by the Canadian Man-Computer
Society (CMCCS) on computer graphics, graphics applications and human interfaces
will be held in Montreal May 27-31. Cosponsored this year by the Computer Graph-
ics Society, GI '85 will offer many activities to the attendees. The week will
start off with two days of tutorials taught by experts in their fields covering
such topics as introduction to computer graphics, image synthesis and computer
animation, interaction design, business graphics, and medical applications. An
exhibition of computer graphics equipment will be held during the week. The
technical session, comprising 67 papers and seven panel sessions will be held
from Wednesday May 29 through to Friday May 31.

On the afternoon of the Thursday during the conference week, the technical ses-
sion will feature a "computer music and image show", a panel on computers in the
arts, followed by a computer film presentation.

The GI conferences have concentrated more on applications of computer graphics,
CAD/CAM, artistic applications, as well as issues concerning the user interface.
This year is no exception. Both the tutorial schedule and the program of the
technical sessions show this concentration.

The first two days of the conference are dedicated to full-day and two day
tutorials. These tutorials will be given partly in French and partly in English
according to the makeup of the class, and simultaneous translation will be pro-
vided except in the case of low demand:

It perhaps goes without saying that the city hosting the conference is well
worth the visit. Montreal, the world's second largest French speaking city,
presents many attractions: self guided tours in "Vieux Montreal" - the historic
heart of the city, fine hotels and world famous restaurants. A varied program
of excursions has been created for accompanying persons.

This year's conference is being held immediately before the joint conference of
the Association for Computer-Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA), and Educa-
tion in Computer Aided Architecture Design in Europe (eCAADe). Special cross-
registration rates are available.

For further information on the conference, contact the conference chair Nadia
Magenat-Thalmann (514) 343-3867 or (514) 343-4658, and for information on the
program contact the program chair Daniel Thalmann, (514) 343-6794.

After the conference, copies of the proceedings (and those from previous GI and
CMCCS conferences) will be available from: CMCCS Canadian Information Processing
