%% Adobe is interested in implementing some level of translation or interface from GKS to PostScript (our device-independent graphics language -- available on the Apple LaserWriter and other laser printers). We have no "real-life" experience actually using GKS, and would like some info from current users or implementors. It seems that the best candidate "cut" for the interface is at the VDM level. First, there is the question of metafile format and encoding. Which metafile format is in widest use? We know of the Virtual Device Metafile (dpANS VDM) and the ISO DIS7942 metafile. The latter allows for two encodings, text and binary. Are there other formats in use? Second, there is the question of language bindings. We would be interested in providing an interface from "C" -- what is the state of standardization in this area? Any helpful comments or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, --Andy ... {decwrl, sun, glacier}!adobe!shore adobe!shore@{decwrl,glacier}.ARPA
