We recently built a video digitizer that furnishes us with 6 bits of intensity (somewhat linearly). I am interested in displaying its output on a black & white display that has only two levels of intensity (on or off), but 16 times the resolution (4x both V and H). I've made a simple halftone routine that just interpolates scattered points, but I'm dissatisfied with the resulting image. I think something more sophisticated might look better. Pointers to algorithms (especially those that adapt to varying minimum and maximum intensities) would be greatly appreciated.
