Recently there is a discussion on the standard image format. We people
at University of British Columbia have developed such a format.
About two months ago, I have posted on this news group about our system,
and I would like to repeat the announcement here again.
------------------------------
The Laboratory for Computational Vision at the University of
British Columbia is distributing its Standard Image System to other
labs interested in computer vision and image processing applications.
The software system defines a standard image datatype that makes few
assumptions about image size (both spatial and spectral resolution),
graphics device characteristics, or host operating system. To realize
these capabilities efficiently, a bit-stream I/O method has been
implemented on top of the normal record-oriented file system of the
host. Files are viewed as randomly accessible contiguous streams of
bits. As a result, the system is extremely flexible and easily
extensible.
The system has been implemented under Unix and interfaced to most
supported language processors. As well a large collection of generic
image subroutines and operators has been developed.
The system is available for a nominal license fee to other
academic Unix sites. For more information contact
