I recently got hold of a prayer book used by my great-great grandfather. It has several pages of hand-written notes on otherwise blank pages near the front & back covers. I have digitized these with all the resolution I can muster (4-bit gray scale), and now need to attempt to enhance the images sufficiently to read the much faded text (in particular, 1 page was written in pencil, then apparently partially erased!). If anyone has any public domain image enhancing software that might be suitable, or knows of good references on the subject, could you please mail me appropriate information?
