[net.graphics] Plotting packages

dal@philabs.UUCP (Dan Lorenzini) (10/28/85)

I would appreciate some help from fellow net-people about what kind of
graphics software they are using. We are looking to find a good graphics
package that people engaged in scientific research can use to plot their data
easily.

What I am looking for is something that provides more than the standard graph
and plot filters. It should be working and available, and preferably support
Tektronix 4010 or 4014 emulation and HP plotters. It can be a library of
callable routines or an interactive program. It may be free, cheap or
expensive.

If you are using such a package and can spare a few minutes to let me know
what features it has and your opinion (good or bad), I would be most
appreciative. Thanks.

P.S.: Is there a UNIX version of NCAR?

Yes, there is at least one version of the NCAR package available for
UN*X (at least the 4.2 BSD flavor, although it may run on others).
We have it running here on our Sun, and have distributed to sites running
other varieties as well. We do CHARGE for our distribution, and
since a commercial message is inappropriate here, please contact me
by email for more information.
