I am looking for a color frame buffer card for IBM PC AT. I need 1024x768 resolution at 4(8) bits/pixel, look-up table at 12(24) bits, RGB output. The hardest requirement to meet is memory-mapped frame buffer (obviously 64k at a time). I am not interested in CGA or EGA from IBM, nor in improvements on them: 640x400x8 kind. IBM's PGC and other purely command driven card sets do not qualify. Mono adapter emulation desired but not required. Ability to map two different 64k segments at a time a plus. Ability to access frame buffer either as pixels or by a bit plane a big plus. Hardware for bitblit (raster block move) almost a requirement. Hardware to rasterize vectors a plus. Cards specifically for AT (larger form factor) allowed, moreover using 16-bit bus a big plus, as is provision for DMA. It seems like Hitachi 63484 chip and a few small miracles with memory should do it and somebody ought to build one. There is an article on PC graphics cards in August '85 issue of MINI-MICRO SYSTEMS that lists a few prospective vendors, whom I will contact. I will appreciate leads to other vendors (need a phone number or an EXACT name and city) as well as personal experiences and findings via E-MAIL, and I WILL SUMMARIZE TO THE NET.
