San Francisco Bay Area SIGGRAPH Announcement - TITLE:The Direction of PC-Based Graphics Systems - WHO: Fred Heiman, Intel Corporation ABSTRACT: This presentation will highlight the trends in graphics hardware and software specifically designed for use with the IBM PC/XT/AT and compatible computers. Specific examples of business presentation graphics software will be illustrated including the GEM products from Digital Research Inc., and VideoShow from General Parametrics Inc., which were used to prepare this presentation. The role of standards (CGI, NAPLPS, etc.) and defacto standards (GEMVDI, EGA, CGA, etc.) will be covered in addition to taking a look at future hardware offerings based on VLSI graphics chips. This presentation examines currently available software and hardware products; other topics include market information, resolution trends, VLSI graphics processors, system costs, the role of standards and a look at the future of this rapidly growing segment of the personal computer market. About the speaker: Fred Heiman is Director of Corporate Planning at Intel Corporation, responsible for administration of strategic planning for all product areas, with particular emphasis on telecommunications, datacommunications and graphics chips. Prior to joining Intel, he spent 11 years as President of Mars Electronics, a division of Mars Inc., which manufactures microprocessor-based electronics for the vending industry. Before joining Mars, he spent 9 years doing research on MOS structures and integrated circuits at RCA Laboratories, where he developed one of the first integrated circuits in 1963. He is the holder of 20 U.S. patents and was awarded the Franklin Institute Medal of Honor for his work on MOS integrated circuits.
