1. GKS (Graphical Kernel System), taught by Janet Chin and Dick Puk.
November 19-21: Government Center, Holiday Inn, Boston.
December 3-5: Doubletree Inn, Monterey, CA.
2. CGI (Computer Graphics Interface), taught by Janet Chin and Karla
Vecchiet.
December 10-12: Holiday Inn, Palo Alto, CA.
January 12-14: Columbia Inn, Columbia, MD (near Baltimore airport).
Each course is $895. Organized by Continuing Education Institute,
which can be reached at 818-710-1126.
If you are interested in these topics but can't make these dates,
please give a ring to CEI and let them know - if there's enough
interest, they'll look into rescheduling!
Personal recommendation: if you want the real scoop, "from the horse's
mouth", these are the courses to take. These folks have been active for
many years on both X3H3 (for the ANSI standards) and ISO TC97/SC21/WG2
(for the international standards). Janet Chin is the X3H3 International
Representative and a private consultant. Karla Vecchiet is the task
group chair for X3H3.3 (CGM/CGI), and currently works at Microfield
Graphics. Dick Puk is a private consultant and one of the main shapers
of PHIGS and very active with GKS and GKS-3D. In addition to being
technically qualified and up-to-date on the progress of these standards,
these are also good speakers - the courses should be worth the money.
