[net.emacs] vt1oo's and the AM capability

flon%usc-cse@USC-ECL (03/15/83)

This is not strictly an Emacs question, but is related to the recent
series of messages on what to do with the cursor when it should be in
column 81.

As best I can determine, the termcap AM capaibility seems to mean that
when you are sitting in column 80 and you type a character, the
character gets placed in column 80 and the cursor moves to the
beginning of the next line. Now some terminals certainly work this
way, but the vt100 is funny. When you type the character in column 80
the character appears but the cursor stays where it is. Only when you
type the NEXT character does that character get placed in column 1 of
the next line and the cursor appears in column 2.

So does this mean that the vt100 should not have the AM capability
mentioned in its termcap entry (it does now)?
