Using append-region-to-buffer to append the region to the current
buffer appends the correct text to the buffer if the region is
reasonably close to the end of the buffer (I haven't established the
exact threshold of proximity), but if the region is somewhere far away
from the end of the buffer, other text is appended instead. I haven't
been able to establish any pattern as to how the text actually appended
relates to the region, but it appears to come from elsewhere in the
same buffer. [This is with Gosling's emacs version #85(12).]
