I'm trying to install UniPress's Emacs on a 4.2 system (freshly converted from VMS). Most of our terminals are VT100's, and their heinous idea of Flow control characters is causing lots of trouble. (VT100's "know" that XON/XOFF is always available via ^S/^Q.) We are running at 9600 Baud, and the padding in the drivers is all wrong. I called Unipress to ask for help, and they said I should remove the bindings for ^s and ^q so that nothing would be hurt by the flow-control characters. This is a less than satisfactory solution. I know this subject was discussed just over a year ago. (I attempt to save all "technical" news, (emacs qualifies as technical) but the articles from that period have disappeared. I still have the article ID's, titles, and authors, but the text of the articles has gone away.) Could some either send me the results of the discussion, or a fix? Please use mail, as I see no need to go through that entire discussion again. I will send summaries to anyone who requests it. Easy fix: put more padding in TrmVT100.c. (Of course you have to have source for that.) Also, Emacs only recognizes certain strings as being VT100s, and for others will use termcap. If you're willing to put up with not having line I/D, you could setenv TERM PaddedVT100 (instead of setenv TERM VT100) and have a termcap for that with enough padding. -- In-Real-Life: Chris Torek, Univ of MD Comp Sci (301) 454-7690 UUCP: {seismo,allegra,brl-bmd}!umcp-cs!chris CSNet: chris@umcp-cs ARPA: chris@maryland
