[Forgive me, brothers, but I like TECO]
I am an absolute novice with EMACS, and have a little problem understanding
my way around it. A few questions:
How do you execute the 'defun' function? The manual I have shows a
number of examples of user-defined MLisp functions (that's still
a mystery to me in itself!), but says only 'execute defun'. The
only way I know of to execute anything not bound to keys is with
the ESC-x sequence, which only allows a single line command. Where
to from there?
Next question:
If I wish to do any iterative functions (example: add a single, constant,
character to the beginnings of several lines, requiring manually
<character>, ^N (next line), ^A (to beginning of line),
is there a way to do this other than defining an MLisp function to
do it?
Any help will be enormously appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who took time to answer my usage questions. Some
mail replies were returned by the mail system (I still don't quite
understand why).
