The biggest problem with the generic termcap driver is that Gosling never did use it much at all; it was mostly written by various other people. It misuses a number of termcap fields and completely ignores some others that it shouldn't. I seem to recall quite a few bugs. Of course I don't use the distributed one anymore; I have a complete rewrite.
