[net.emacs] jove, public domain or not?

<chomp?>

We recently received a version of Jove from SIL. Very nice little
editor, fast with lots of features similar to Gosling's emacs.
In a few days hacking at it I have:

	(1)	Added a new wired function called "describe-variable",
similar to describe-command but for variables (like
		"magic").

	(2)	Added string variables in addition to numeric variables.
The first was "mode-line-format" to change the mode
		line format.

	(3)	Delinted it and ported it to system V release 2.

	(4)	Fixed several display bugs related to the "im",
		"ei", and "ic" termcap capabilities.

	(5)	Fixed several other minor bugs.

I have a couple of questions:

	(1)	It is my understanding that though Jonathan Payne
has relinquished rights to his portion of the code,
Jove still contains many pieces that are derived
from AT&T code and thus is not truely public domain.

Can anyone enlighten me on the true details. Is
		Jonathan on the net anywhere?

	(2)	Assuming no proprietary code problems, I would
like to share my fixes and enhancements with other
users. Anyone currently using jove that would like
to participate in this please send me mail.
