Gentle Readers:

I am beginning a port of GNU emacs to the IBM AT under Xenix. I am
wondering if anyone else is working on a similar thing? I am
wondering if anyone has a method for reducing labels to 8 characters
of significance. (Or has this already happened to GNUemacs?) Answers
and so on will be appreciated. Results will be sent back to the
source.

According to my AT Xenix "Software Command Reference" p1-31 the length
of external symbols is settable via the -nl switch to a maximun of 31.
Also 31 characters symbol names are implimented according to the
manuals.
