From: Richard M. Stallman <rms@prep> sg#0 does not confuse GNU Emacs. Be careful about removing it! sg#0 says that standout-on/off output magic cookies of width 0, that remain fixed on the screen, and that text following a turn-on cookie is in standout mode. If sg is not used, it says that standout-on/off sequences control a mode in the terminal which affects characters when they are output. As far as I can tell, both kinds of terminals exist. If a termcap entry has sg#0, either it is there erroneously or it is necessary.

Well, I checked further after seeing your posting, and that explains why sg#0 didn't work on my wyse50 when using dim for standout mode, as the terminal implements that attribute by setting bit 7 in the screen memory. This makes the attribute associate with each character, not with a screen position. Unfortunately, the distinction isn't clear (or mentioned at all, actually) in my termcap(5) manual page. Maybe you have a different manual page... -- Bruce Robertson UUCP: cbosgd!utah-cs!utah-gr!stride!bruce
