I can deduce from files and functions mentioned in aks@maryland's message that he is using Emacs version 15. But only a real expert would notice this. Most people would see no reason to doubt what was said. In fact, the procedures described are neither workable nor necessary in Emacs version 16, which has been the current distribution since July. Masochists can turn on flow control in version 16 by calling the Lisp function set-input-mode. It is not always possible to know whether you have the latest version of a program or not. But there is no excuse for failing to say what version you have.
