From: rms@prep (Richard M. Stallman) I need to find a wizard who wants to do the last inch of making Emacs work on a vanilla system V, and is willing to get his hands dirty. I'm looking for someone who is either on the Internet or has friends physically near him who are, so that the latest development Emacs can be transferred without waiting for tapes to be mailed.

I've sent mail to rms about this, but since there seems to be a rather healthy delay in moving mail between us, I'm posting this as well. >From: rms@prep (Richard M. Stallman) >I need to find a wizard who wants to do the last inch of making Emacs >work on a vanilla system V, and is willing to get his hands dirty. Emacs (version 16.60) has already been made to run on vanilla system V. Richard is talking about getting version 17 to work as well. I'm not sure what "...willing to get his hands dirty" means. but there seems to be little reason for the work to be done again, except... >I'm looking for someone who is either on the Internet or has >friends physically near him who are, so that the latest development Emacs >can be transferred without waiting for tapes to be mailed. Huh? Richard received my first message almost 2 weeks ago in which I told him that I'd done the work for sys V on 16.60 and was willing to do the same for 17. Had express mail been used (and perhaps even with U.S. mail), he would have had the system V mods back in his hands by now. Ok, it's evident that mailing tapes will not be the answer, so... I'm not on the Internet so getting the v17 distribution in a very short time is problematic. Karl Kleinpaste in Columbus was very helpful in getting 16.60 to me when it was released, but he's been unable to get v17. If anyone on the internet (hello Rutgers?) has a solution to the above situation, I'm still willing to do the work. -------------------- Tom Kirk ihnp4!{moss|bonnie|clyde}!tk AT&T-BL (201)386-6044
