Since this group has (again) decided to discuss the merits of the GNU emacs
concept and the philosophies of Richard Stallman, I recommend that you drop by
your local bookstore and get the book "Hackers" by Stephen Levy. This book
very clearly explains the history of hackerdom, and when you are through you
will understand why RMS feels the way he does (he's an entire chapter at the
end, as a matter of fact). You may not agree with him, but at least you'll be
arguing with a basis of information instead of ignorance. Well worth the price
of admission and should re required reading for anyone in the industry...
