Re remap.h: The distribution does not contain remap.h because that is built by the action of the makefile. Very recently a few minor bugs were fixed causing some programs in etc to try to include remap.h, which has not been made yet. 17.49 no longer has this problem. The fix is to #define NO_SHORTNAMES before including config.h in programs which are not part of Emacs proper. You omitted to say what version you have; ALWAYS INCLUDE THE VERSION NUMBER IN ALL COMPLAINTS ABOUT EMACS (or about any other program). I can only guess that you encountered this previously known problem.
