[net.emacs] microemacs evolution

fnf%unisoft@unisoft.UUCP (04/25/86)

A recent posting to net.emacs about microemacs resulting in the following
mail from the author (Dave Conroy):

	Fred,
Glad it came up for you.
As I have said to everyone who has been sending me mail, I don't
follow anything on the usenet (that is, I don't read net.anything).
As such, I don't track all of the microemacs changes out there in
the world. Although I am certainly interested in the evolution of
microemacs, I have little to no intention of spending the rest of my
life keeping track of dozens of random changes in what is
	(essentially) a little hack.

	dgc

PS:	you might want to post this to the appropriate place in
net.whatever, to put an end to the wondering about what the author
	thinks about all of this.

To which I responded:

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'll post your letter to net.emacs (after
deleting your return path and phone number for the sake of your
	sanity).

If someone was to step forward and volunteer to somewhat coordinate
both other peoples changes and your enhancements (if any), would
you be willing to work with them to try to keep things under
control? Probably would be no more than sharing of sources back and
forth and agreeing to sync things so that no massive changes were
going on by both groups at the same time.

And his reply was:

Yes, I'll help do some of the coordination. I just don't want to
offer to do everything, and then do a bad job because I am spending
lots of time doing other things.

	dgc

So there you have it. Looks like things can be coordinated if we can
find someone to step forward and volunteer. Now's the time to do it,
because I know of at least three major variants now of microemacs,
and at least a dozen more little sub-variants. It would be nice to
get things sorted out before they get too out of hand.

If I wasn't already involved in lots of other projects, including some
occasional support for GNU emacs, I'd take it on myself...
