Help! I have adapted "jove" to run on an ibm or clone under msdos 2.0 and up. Most all features of the unix version have been maintained, except for those requiring child processes or shell execution. Some commands have been modified to more closely resemble emacs. The program compiles with C86 using the large model, and uses all available memory. I am interested in making the program available to others but not without the original author's permission. I need help with the following: 1) A path or address to the original author, listed in the sources as "Jonathan Payne at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School". 2) Any information on the source origins. They come with Berkeley 2.9 unix for the pdp-11 in a group called "user contributed software".

Jove is public domain. Just leave the original author's name with the sources. When I got my copy from Jon, he specifically said "public domain but don't sell". Jon no longer supports jove - I tried to push back bug fixes and enhancements on him and he said he had changed jobs and didn't have time to support jove anymore. There has been numerous enhancements and bug fixes. The version I got was for 4.1, which I have updated for 4.2BSD. I believe this is the latest version he worked on, and I have added stuff to it since then. A version runs on VENIX, and I'm working to get it up on IBM XT/IX. I know Jon had it running on the BBN C-machine and their VAX. I use it here on the VAXes (4.2, 4.1) and Suns (4.2). Would the person at SIL and the person who got it running for MS-DOS want to merge sources?

Will the person(s) who recently sent me mail regarding Jove please repost? Mail was lost, and I have no way to reply. Ken Mitchum km@cadre.arpa cadre.uucp

Sorry to be ignorant, but what is Jove, and does anyone have purchasing info? I am led to believe that Jove is an emacs-like editor that runs under Venix 2.0 - confirmation, anyone? Thanks, Amyjo Bilson ames!gabor!amyjo@riacs

i'd love to see the sources of jove on mod.sources. as for modifying them to run under ms-dos, ken mitchum (km@cadre.ARPA) of the decision systems laboratories of univ of pittsburgh has already made available a version. i don't know what version of the sources he started from (whether they contained the disputed bell code). i run under unix, but the release notes have instructions for making an ms-dos image.
