[net.emacs] GNU 18.26: `No X'

dan@prairie.UUCP (Daniel M. Frank) (10/20/86)

I just built 18.26 GNU after having successfully run 17.64 for some
time. Everything compiled just fine, but when I run it I get the
complaint `No X.', and it aborts. Nothing else has changed, the
DISPLAY environment variable is fine, and I even tried specifying a
display explicitly with the -d option.

The machine is a VaxStation II with protocol version 10.3 of X.
Anyone seen this problem?

I built it on our 785 and it ran correctly. The "No X" error means
that XOpenDisplay failed inside the gnuemacs X driver, which either
means that your machine was not xhosted or that the DISPLAY variable
was wrong, although it sounds like the latter was not the case.

If you are still having this problem, could you please mail me the
exit status of the editor? The exit status encodes the failure mode,
and it would be useful in helping me track the problem down.
