[net.decus] MUMPS language question - some general comments

Someone asked about MUMPS and what it is like. I had the good fortune
to have an opportunity to learn to program in MUMPS a couple years ago.
What is it like? Well, imagine something like Basic, only designed by
some *good* programmers with a sense of humor.

MUMPS is an integrated programming language / command language /
data base access language, and it WORKS! What some people may consider
a drawback is that it is interpreted. However, spiffy one-off programs
can be written and debugged very quickly; and rather elaborate data
base intense applications can be designed, implemented, and (importantly)
modified with comparative ease.

I am obviously a MUMPS enthusiast; I think it would be an ideal language
for typical home/personal computer use.
