<Take me.> Does anybody out there know about using Hayes-compatible autodial modems from a VMS system? The problem is actually not with the modem, but with the DEC terminal driver. We are using a terminal emulator program under VMS to dial out of our VAX-11. Unfortunately, on a DMF modem control line, if there is no carrier detected, then no echoing takes place. This makes sense to protect the system from noisy lines, but it means that we have to dial "in the dark", so to speak. VMS will echo nothing until the connection has been made. We *COULD* flip a dip-switch in the modem to force carrier, but then we lose the modem control logout function, and that is not acceptable. Does anyone out there know how to force VMS to echo even when there is no carrier? Thanks in advance, Cliff Beshers {decvax,ihnp4}!stolaf!beshers Carleton College, by way of St. Olaf across town.
