I haven't seen any definitive answers on this subject, so I thought I would post my views (not that they are definitive). It seems to me the original article was about RL02 disk packs, but that's long been expired. - Cleaning disk packs should be done as part of preventitive maintenance, *not* to repair an existing problem. - We clean our most heavily used packs 1-2 times a year. It is a simple procedure that is so fast you could even do it with a little down time, but we do it will the pack is "rotated out". - It is not economical to do this with an RL02, as the cost would rapidly pay for a new pack. Also, the recording density on an RL02 is not great enough that it is likely to make a very big difference. It's a trivial procedure, and generally cures and errors that we seem to be getting. ;-) -- Tony Li ;-) Usc Computer Science Uucp: {sdcrdcf, randvax}!uscvax!tli Csnet: tli@usc-cse.csnet Arpa: tli@usc-ecl
