I am writing a handbook on Network Performance (for Networks and Communications group, available to all on order). Right now I am trying to define network AVAILABILITY and network RELIABILITY. I have looked through many sources (Digital and non-Digital) and have failed to find a consensus. Some definitions include availability as a part of reliability, some see them as distinct (though related). Can you suggest defintions for these performance characteristics. Also, would you please include how they each are measured (for example, MTBF, probability of being up, etc.). Thank you very much.
