Some time ago, somebody asked either here or in fa.vax about reading the hidden first record bytes of existing files with Fortran carriage control when opened from VAX/11 C. Somebody (maybe two people?) replied to the net telling of an undocumented option to either open() or fopen() (I'm not sure which) that would allow this. I filed this away and promptly lost it. Now, I need to do this, and would very much appreciate it if somebody would please either mail the answer to me or repost it to the net. Thanks very much.
